The U.S. measures temperature in Fahrenheit, most of the world in Celsius and science in Kelvin. This temperature converter switches between °F, °C and K in both directions, including negative values, and shows all three at once. The charts below the converter cover weather, body temperature and oven settings.
Quick answer: °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9. °F = °C × 9/5 + 32. K = °C + 273.15. 98.6 °F = 37 °C; 350 °F = 176.7 °C; 25 °C = 77 °F; 0 °C = 32 °F.
How to use the temperature converter
- Type a temperature (use a minus sign for values below zero).
- Choose From and To units; the swap button reverses them.
- The result updates as you type and shows the value in Fahrenheit, Celsius and Kelvin.
Temperature conversion formulas
| Conversion | Formula | Example |
|---|---|---|
| °F to °C | (°F − 32) × 5 ÷ 9 | 68 °F = 20 °C |
| °C to °F | °C × 9 ÷ 5 + 32 | 30 °C = 86 °F |
| °C to K | °C + 273.15 | 20 °C = 293.15 K |
| K to °C | K − 273.15 | 300 K = 26.85 °C |
| °F to K | (°F − 32) × 5 ÷ 9 + 273.15 | 32 °F = 273.15 K |

Examples
- Weather: 75 °F − 32 = 43, × 5/9 = 23.9 °C.
- Fever check: 38.5 °C × 9/5 + 32 = 101.3 °F.
- Baking: a European recipe at 200 °C needs 392 °F; most U.S. ovens would be set to 400 °F.
Common mistakes
- Multiplying before subtracting 32. For °F to °C, subtract 32 first.
- Using 2 instead of 1.8. Doubling Celsius and adding 30 is a quick estimate only.
- Writing degrees for Kelvin. It is 300 K, not 300 °K.

Frequently asked questions
How do I convert Fahrenheit to Celsius?
Subtract 32, then multiply by 5/9: °C = (°F − 32) × 5 ÷ 9. For example, 98.6 °F − 32 = 66.6, and 66.6 × 5 ÷ 9 = 37 °C.
How do I convert Celsius to Fahrenheit?
Multiply by 9/5 and add 32: °F = °C × 9 ÷ 5 + 32. For example, 25 °C × 1.8 = 45, plus 32 = 77 °F. A quick estimate is to double the Celsius value and add 30.
What is normal body temperature in Celsius?
The traditional normal body temperature is 98.6 °F, which is 37 °C. Healthy temperatures range from about 97 °F (36.1 °C) to 99 °F (37.2 °C). A fever is generally 100.4 °F (38 °C) or higher.
What is 350 °F in Celsius?
350 °F is 176.7 °C, usually rounded to 180 °C on European ovens (gas mark 4). 400 °F is 204.4 °C (about 200 °C) and 425 °F is 218.3 °C.
At what temperature are Fahrenheit and Celsius equal?
At −40 degrees. −40 °F is exactly −40 °C.
How do I convert Celsius to Kelvin?
Add 273.15: K = °C + 273.15. Water freezes at 273.15 K and boils at 373.15 K at sea level. Kelvin is written without a degree sign.
What is absolute zero?
Absolute zero is the lowest possible temperature: 0 K, −273.15 °C or −459.67 °F. The converter will not accept values below it.
What temperatures are freezing and boiling?
Water freezes at 32 °F (0 °C) and boils at 212 °F (100 °C) at sea level. Room temperature is about 68–72 °F (20–22 °C).
