Job offers come as an hourly wage or an annual salary, and comparing the two is harder than it looks. This hourly to salary calculator converts either way and breaks the result into daily, weekly, biweekly, semimonthly and monthly pay. You can change the hours you work, account for unpaid weeks off and add regular overtime.
Quick answer: a full-time year is 2,080 hours (40 × 52). $25 an hour = $52,000 a year, $20 an hour = $41,600, $15 an hour = $31,200. Going the other way, a $50,000 salary = $24.04 an hour and $100,000 = $48.08 an hour. All figures are gross pay, before taxes.
How to use the calculator
- Pick Hourly → salary or Salary → hourly.
- Enter your hourly rate or annual salary.
- Change hours per week (default 40) and weeks per year (default 52) if needed.
- Enter unpaid weeks off if you take time off without pay. Paid vacation does not go here.
- In the hourly tab, add overtime hours per week. They are paid at 1.5 times your rate.
- Press Calculate to see every pay period at once.
How do you convert hourly pay to salary?
| Conversion | Formula | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Hourly → annual | rate × hours per week × paid weeks | $25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000 |
| Annual → hourly | salary ÷ (hours per week × paid weeks) | $50,000 ÷ 2,080 = $24.04 |
| Weekly | annual ÷ 52 | $52,000 ÷ 52 = $1,000 |
| Biweekly | annual ÷ 26 | $52,000 ÷ 26 = $2,000 |
| Semimonthly | annual ÷ 24 | $52,000 ÷ 24 = $2,166.67 |
| Monthly | annual ÷ 12 | $52,000 ÷ 12 = $4,333.33 |
| Daily | hourly × (hours per week ÷ 5) | $25 × 8 = $200 |
| Overtime pay | rate × 1.5 × overtime hours × paid weeks | $20 × 1.5 × 5 × 52 = $7,800 |
A month is not four weeks. There are about 4.33 weeks in a month (52 ÷ 12), which is why $1,000 a week is $4,333.33 a month, not $4,000.
Worked examples
$25 an hour, full time
25 × 2,080 = $52,000 a year: $200 a day, $1,000 a week, $2,000 biweekly, $2,166.67 semimonthly and $4,333.33 a month.
$20 an hour with 5 hours of overtime every week
Regular pay is 20 × 40 × 52 = $41,600. Overtime pays $30 an hour, so 30 × 5 × 52 = $7,800. The total is $49,400 a year, $950 a week, which averages $21.11 an hour over 2,340 hours. See exactly how a single week adds up with the overtime calculator.
$18 an hour, part time with unpaid weeks
At 30 hours a week with 2 unpaid weeks, you are paid for 50 weeks: 18 × 30 × 50 = $27,000 a year, or $2,250 a month on average.
A $60,000 salary at 45 hours a week
If you work 45 hours every week, the real hourly value is 60,000 ÷ (45 × 52) = $25.64, not the $28.85 you get from 2,080 hours. That difference matters when you compare a salaried offer with an hourly one.

Comparing an hourly job with a salaried job
- Hourly workers usually earn overtime. Under the Fair Labor Standards Act, most hourly employees get time and a half for hours over 40 in a week. Many salaried employees are exempt and do not.
- Benefits change the picture. Employer health insurance, retirement matching and paid time off can be worth thousands of dollars a year. Compare total compensation, not just pay.
- Minimum wage is a floor. The federal minimum is $7.25 an hour ($15,080 a year), but more than half the states set a higher one.
- Raises are percentages. To see what a 4% raise does to your hourly rate, use the percentage calculator.
Common mistakes
- Counting a month as four weeks. It undercounts pay by about 8%. Use 52 ÷ 12 = 4.33 weeks.
- Subtracting paid vacation. Paid time off is still paid; only unpaid weeks lower your annual pay.
- Using 2,080 hours for a job with long weeks. A salaried job that needs 50 hours a week pays less per hour than it seems.
- Confusing gross and net. These are pre-tax figures. Taxes, Social Security, Medicare and benefit deductions come out before you are paid.

Frequently asked questions
How do I convert hourly pay to an annual salary?
Multiply your hourly rate by the hours you work in a year. Full time is 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours, so $25 an hour is 25 × 2,080 = $52,000 a year. A quick estimate: double the hourly rate and add three zeros ($25 → about $50,000).
How do I convert a salary to an hourly rate?
Divide the salary by 2,080 for a 40-hour, 52-week year. $50,000 ÷ 2,080 = $24.04 an hour. If you regularly work 45 hours a week, divide by 2,340 instead; $60,000 then works out to $25.64 an hour rather than $28.85.
How much is $20 an hour a year?
$20 an hour is $41,600 a year at 40 hours a week, which is $800 a week, $1,600 every two weeks and about $3,466.67 a month, all before taxes.
How much is $15 an hour a year?
$15 an hour full time is $31,200 a year, $600 a week or $2,600 a month before taxes.
What is the federal minimum wage per year?
The federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour, unchanged since July 2009. At 2,080 hours that is $15,080 a year. Many states and cities set a higher minimum, and the higher rate applies.
Should I count paid vacation when converting salary to hourly?
No. Paid vacation and paid holidays are still paid weeks, so keep weeks per year at 52. Only unpaid time off reduces annual pay. If you take two unpaid weeks, enter 2 in Unpaid weeks off.
What is the difference between biweekly and semimonthly pay?
Biweekly means every two weeks, 26 paychecks a year. Semimonthly means twice a month, usually on the 15th and the last day, 24 paychecks a year. On a $52,000 salary a biweekly check is $2,000 and a semimonthly check is $2,166.67.
Is this take-home pay?
No. The results are gross pay before federal and state income tax, Social Security and Medicare (7.65% combined for employees), retirement contributions and health insurance. Take-home pay is often 20–30% lower.
