Etsy’s fees are small one at a time, but together they usually take about a tenth of every order, and far more when a sale comes from an Offsite Ad. This Etsy fee calculator shows each fee on an order: the listing fee, the 6.5% transaction fee, payment processing and Offsite Ads. Then it shows your payout, profit and margin. The Target price tab finds the price you need for a profit or margin.
Quick answer: U.S. Etsy fees are $0.20 per listing, 6.5% of item price + shipping, and 3% + $0.25 payment processing. A $40 item with $10 shipping pays $5.20 in fees (10.4%). With a $12 item cost and $8 postage you keep $24.80. An Offsite Ads sale adds 15% (12% for larger shops), capped at $100.
How to use the Etsy fee calculator
- Enter your item price and the quantity in the order (blank = 1).
- Enter the shipping you charge and any gift wrap fee.
- Enter your cost per item (materials, packaging) and your shipping cost (postage and label).
- Optional: the buyer’s sales tax rate (it slightly raises payment processing) and whether the sale came from an Offsite Ad.
- Press Calculate. The breakdown below the result shows where each dollar goes. Your inputs are saved in this browser.
How are Etsy fees calculated?
| Fee | Rate (U.S. shops) | Charged on | $40 item + $10 shipping |
|---|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 | Each listing, renewed for each extra unit sold | $0.20 |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% | Item price + shipping + gift wrap | $3.25 |
| Payment processing | 3% + $0.25 | Total the buyer pays, including sales tax | $1.75 |
| Offsite Ads (if the sale came from one) | 15% or 12%, max $100 | Order total | $7.50 |
| Total without Offsite Ads | $5.20 (10.4%) |
Then: payout = order total − Etsy fees, and profit = payout − item cost − your shipping cost. Sales tax is collected by Etsy and paid to the state, so it is not your income.

Etsy fee examples
Example 1: $40 item, $10 shipping
Order total $50. Listing $0.20, transaction 6.5% × $50 = $3.25, processing 3% × $50 + $0.25 = $1.75. Fees $5.20, payout $44.80. After the $12 item cost and $8 postage, profit is $24.80, a 49.6% margin. The item price that just breaks even is $12.60.
Example 2: the same order with 8% sales tax
The buyer pays $54. Processing becomes 3% × $54 + $0.25 = $1.87, so fees are $5.32 and profit $24.68. Tax costs you 12 cents.
Example 3: the sale came from an Offsite Ad
15% × $50 = $7.50 more. Fees jump to $12.70 (25.4%) and profit falls to $17.30. A $800 order would owe $121.50 at 15% but is capped at $100.
Example 4: three items in one order
3 × $40 with $12 shipping = $132. Listing $0.60 (three units), transaction $8.58, processing $4.21: fees $13.39 (10.1%). With $36 in item costs and $10 postage, profit is $72.61. The $0.25 processing charge is paid once per order, so bundles are cheaper per item.
Example 5: price for a target
With the costs from Example 1, a $20 profit needs an item price of $34.69, and a 40% margin needs $30.49.
Free shipping or charged shipping?
Etsy charges the same 6.5% + 3% on shipping as on the item, so moving $10 of shipping into the item price does not change your fees. What it can change is search placement: Etsy favors U.S. listings with free shipping on orders of $35 or more. To check the percentage difference between two prices, use the percentage calculator.
Common mistakes
- Leaving shipping out of the fee base. Transaction and processing fees apply to shipping too.
- Forgetting the fixed fees. $0.45 per order matters on cheap items: on a $10 sale the fees are 14%.
- Ignoring Offsite Ads. If your shop made $10,000 in the last year, you cannot opt out; price with 12% in mind.
- Counting sales tax as income. Etsy remits it for you.
- Using one listing fee for multiple units. Each extra unit sold renews the listing for another $0.20.
- Forgetting materials you already own. Count every material and your packaging in the item cost.
Also selling on Amazon?
Amazon charges a category-based referral fee (usually 15%) instead. Compare the same product with the Amazon fee calculator. If supplies go on a credit card, the credit card payoff calculator shows how long that balance will take to clear.
Fees are approximate and based on Etsy’s published fees for U.S. sellers as of October 2026. Etsy can change fees; your Payment account shows the exact amounts. This is not tax advice.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Etsy take from a $40 sale?
On a $40 item with $10 shipping, Etsy charges a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the $50 order ($3.25) and 3% + $0.25 payment processing ($1.75): $5.20 in total, or 10.4% of the order. If the sale came from an Offsite Ad, add 15% ($7.50), for $12.70.
What are Etsy’s fees in 2026?
For U.S. sellers: $0.20 to list an item (renewed for each extra unit sold), a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping and gift wrap, 3% + $0.25 payment processing on the total the buyer pays including sales tax, and Offsite Ads at 15% (12% for shops with $10,000+ in yearly sales) when an order comes from one, capped at $100. There is no monthly fee unless you choose Etsy Plus.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee covers shipping and gift wrap as well as the item price, and payment processing is charged on the whole order. Charging $10 for shipping adds $0.65 in transaction fees and $0.30 in processing.
Does Etsy take a fee on sales tax?
Etsy does not charge its 6.5% transaction fee on sales tax, but the 3% payment processing fee is calculated on the full amount the buyer pays, including tax. On a $50 order with 8% tax, processing rises from $1.75 to $1.87.
What is the Etsy Offsite Ads fee?
When a buyer clicks an Etsy ad on another site (such as Google or Instagram) and buys from your shop within 30 days, you pay 15% of the order total. Shops that made $10,000 or more in the past 12 months pay 12% and cannot opt out. The fee is capped at $100 per order.
What percentage of a sale does Etsy take?
Usually about 10–11% for orders over $20 without Offsite Ads, because the fixed $0.20 and $0.25 matter less as the price rises. On a $10 item it is about 14%. With a 15% Offsite Ads fee the total is roughly 25–26%.
Do U.S. Etsy sellers pay the regulatory operating fee?
No. The regulatory operating fee applies only to shops in certain countries, such as the UK, France, Italy, Spain and Türkiye. Shops based in the United States do not pay it.
What should I charge on Etsy to make $20 profit?
If an item costs you $12 to make, you charge $10 shipping and postage costs you $8, an item price of $34.69 leaves $20.00 after Etsy fees. The Target price tab finds this for any costs, profit or margin.
